In 1960, Marilyn Monroe arrived in the searing heat of the Nevada desert to shoot The Misfits, a film written as a parting love letter to Monroe by her then husband, the playwright Arthur Miller. Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift, two long-established superstars, were cast to star alongside Monroe under the direction of the seasoned director John Huston. It would be the most expensive black and white movie ever made at the time.

That night, event planner Robert Isabell had four tons of glitter dumped in a four-inch layer on the club's floor which owner Ian Schrager said was like "standing on stardust".

This iconic color-blocked print features legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix during a photo studio session in London in 1967. The photographer recalled "I had the privilege to work with Jimi twice in 1967...We got on incredibly well and I found him to be a most charming, humble and witty person as well as a willing and enthusiastic subject."

The 1966 photograph was an outtake from Mankowitz's famous cover session for the band's album Between The Buttons.

Elton John flies in the air while playing the piano on-stage at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in California on November 15, 1970. Known for his pageantry and precision on the keys, John saw his most commercially successful period in the 1970s during which he released several hit albums with the help of his musical partner and lyricist Bernie Taupin.
