Based in Los Angeles, photographer Joseph Jasgur worked extensively during Hollywood’s golden age, photographing icons such as Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Betty Grable, Jane Russell and Ronald Reagan, and served as the official photographer at the Hollywood Canteen, a popular wartime venue for soldiers and stars. In 1946, Jasgur produced dozens of glamour and casual portraits of Marilyn Monroe that became part of the portfolio she showed to 20th Century Fox, helping launch her career. In 1991 he published The Birth of Marilyn, a book documenting his collaboration with Monroe.
