It began after Terry photographed The Beatles at Abbey Road Studios in 1963. The photograph was published when The Beatles single "Please Please Me" became a hit and the newspaper sold out that day.
The Stones manager, Andrew Loog Oldham then contacted Terry. Asked him to photograph The Rolling Stones. Terry agreed, deciding to take The Rolling Stones to Denmark Street known as Tin Pan Alley for its concentration of music publishers and songwriters.
Than repeat The Beatles portrait Terry wanted to give The Rolling Stones a distinctive image. He took Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman onto the street with their instruments and cases capturing their looks and less conventional style.
The resulting photographs presented The Rolling Stones as raw, self‑assured and different from the pop groups of the era. They became images of The Rolling Stones early years documenting The Rolling Stones before their rise, to international superstardom.
