What Is Celebrity Photography?

Behind the Velvet Rope with Historys Defining Icons

Celebrity photography allows you to give a representation of the true essence of a person, highlighting their character and story, creating lasting moments.

Fine art celebrity photography is different to those random photos we often get from paparazzi. These photographs are created with care and thought. They can be taken on a film set, behind the scenes of a performance or at home. Whether they were given access to take the photo or not the way they were created and what they represent can be very different.

Terry O'Neill took a photo of Frank Sinatra in 1968 whilst he was filming The Lady in Cement. Sinatra was walking down a boardwalk in Miami Beach. O'Neill had sent Sinatra a letter of introduction from Ava Gardner and Sinatra was very grateful, welcoming him in. This gave O'Neill years of trusted access.

O'Neill went on to take a photo of Brigitte Bardot on a film set in Spain in 1971. One photo in particular stood out to me. The photo shows her smoking a cigar with her hair blowing in the wind. This was an unposed moment. The lighting was perfect and highlighted her confidence, beauty and strength.

These photographs give us a glimpse into the past. Showing us how these icons looked, how they moved and how they held themselves. We can see their style, confidence and the world they helped create.
