The Golden Rule for Spacing Living Room Walls
A simple rule to keep in mind is to leave between six and eight inches of space between the top of your sofa and the bottom edge of the picture frame.
If you hang the artwork high it can feel disconnected from the seating area. The wall might seem separate like the picture doesn’t belong. When the gap is smaller it helps bring the sofa and the framed photograph together into one clean unified space.
For pictures on a wall our curators often aim to place the centre of the photograph about fifty-seven inches from the floor. That’s a measure used in galleries.. When the artwork is above a sofa the space between the top of the sofa and the frame matters more than that number.
