Few artists have had the opportunity to work as closely with David Bowie as Tony McGee. From 1982 onwards, the two artists developed a profound personal and professional relationship that would produce some of the greatest photographs of Bowie ever captured. This catalogue presents a selection of McGee’s best Bowie imagery, including some of the most iconic portraits taken of the artist during the 1980s.
Tony McGee began working as a photographer at the age of 16; by age 21 his images had appeared on 25 magazine covers. In 1980 he was named Best British Photographer, and in 1982, the year he met David Bowie, he was awarded the title of the Best Fashion Photographer in the UK. He has created award-winning fashion campaigns, photographing models such as Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington and Claudia Schiffer. In 1990 his portrait of Bowie was accepted into the National Portrait Gallery.
