The Five Who Changed Rock Music Forever
If you look at Terry O'Neill’s famous 1963 group portrait you’re seeing The Rolling Stones before they played huge stadiums or flew in private jets. This was their days, raw and real.
Fans who come to Iconic Images Gallery often ask: who is featured in The Rolling Stone photograph?
It’s the five members of The Rolling Stones standing together on Denmark Street in London.
In the photo Mick Jagger leans forward his hair messy and full lips slightly parted. He’s flanked by guitarists Keith Richards and Brian Jones. Brian stands out with his hair and sharp jacket—part of the band’s unique look back then. Next to them are bassist Bill Wyman and drummer Charlie Watts. Their faces are calm not smiling, giving the image a serious feel.
This picture is different from the shiny posed group shots of bands from that time. These five look relaxed,. Also serious. You can see they’re focused, hungry and cool in a way.
