American actor Paul Newman photographed for People magazine in Beverly Hills, California in 1980. The watch Newman is wearing – a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona – is one of the most legendary timepieces in the history of horology. Newman’s wife, Joanne Woodward, bought the watch for him in 1968 and had it engraved on the case back with: “DRIVE CAREFULLY ME” – a nod to Newman’s passion for motor racing. Its record-breaking auction sale brought in 17.8 million dollars at Phillips auction house 2017.

As a young photographer in 1961, he was assigned to shoot Marilyn Monroe, and since his lens has explored the universe of fame. He has photographed the legendary Coco Chanel at work and the stars of over one hundred motion pictures including The Sound of Music, Titanic, and The Great Gatsby.
