Don't Look Back In Anger: Oasis Announces 2025 Reunion Tour

Oasis are back.

This week the biggest band of the Britpop era announced a string of arena tour dates scheduled for 2025, bringing their anthemic tunes and inimitable swagger back to legions of dedicated fans.

Since its founding in the early 90s by brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, the band has released dozens of timeless hits, courted as many controversies, and endured several periods of tense estrangement. Their cocksure charisma, accentuated with a wardrobe of parkas and John Lennon-esque sunglasses, made them the perfect muse for photographers hoping to capture the unique energy of the cultural moment.

Iconic Images photographer and fellow Mancunian Kevin Cummins was there as the band started out, capturing Liam and Noel on the streets of their home city, at the beginning of what would be one of the most euphoric and fraught rock and roll journeys in British music history.

Cummins’ first encounter with the band was predictably chaotic. After travelling to Amsterdam to photograph the full lineup in 1994, the photographer was greeted by a lone Noel Gallagher, who casually informed him the rest of the band had been deported.

"They'd had a scrap on the ferry overnight," said Cummins in an interview with the BBC, recalling how he had to force Noel to pose in front of the poster for the cancelled gig just to prove he had gone to his employers.

Gered Mankowitz photographed the band in 1994, taking promotional images of Noel and his beloved Gibson guitar, as well as atmospheric full-lineup shots that employed the photographer’s trademark lubricated lens technique.

Though the images were a creative success, Mankowitz noted in a recent interview how the tension surrounding the band made them less than ideal collaborators.

After a long hiatus, Oasis returned to recording in 2007, a year that saw them win the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music. Denis O’Regan was there on the night, capturing frontman Liam in a characteristically nonchalant posture as he faced his adoring audience. It was the beginning of a new Oasis era. Now, after yet another long break, they are ready to begin the next.
