How Do I Start Collecting Photography Prints?

How Do I Start Collecting Photography Prints?

A Practical Beginners Guide to Darkroom Portfolios

Going into an art gallery in Mayfair might feel a little intimidating if this is the time you are buying a fine art photograph.

Our tip is very straightforward: be careful with listings that do not clearly show a photographs authenticity or where it came from. Find prints that come directly from the photographer their gallery or a trusted auction house. Depending on the edition a print could be made in a darkroom or with a modern printing method.

Check for editions, like twenty-five or fifty prints and make sure to read the details about the edition carefully since sizes and formats can be different. Look for the photographers signature or an official estate stamp. Also check if there is a Certificate of Authenticity available.

To begin collecting with guidance go to Iconic Images Gallery at 16 Waterloo Place, in St Jamess (SW1Y 4AR) or send an email to gallery@iconicimages.net.
