Kate Moss during a night out, 2005 — Limited Edition Print - Greg Brennan

Greg Brennan

Kate Moss on the Stairs, 2007 — Limited Edition Print

Prices begin from £2,400 / $2,700

On the day of Kate Moss’s 33rd birthday, while photographers massed futilely outside The Dorchester, this image was made in near silence at a back exit of the Donmar Warehouse. By chance as much as intent, Greg Brennan moved away from the spectacle and encountered Moss alone: seated on a staircase, cigarette in hand, briefly unobserved. The photograph departs from reportage, approaching instead something more cinematic: an image that condenses her public persona into a single, unrepeatable moment.

Its significance lies in its restraint. There is no red carpet, no overt performance. While others waited elsewhere, Brennan recorded a quieter truth: Moss composed, elusive, and self-possessed. In doing so, the image fixes a transient pause with unusual clarity, and has come to stand among the most enduring portraits of her career.
