Originally released in 1987, the classic book Marilyn Monroe: An Appreciation is now redesigned and reissued in the highest modern quality, featuring a blend of classic and newly discovered images of the legendary star. With intimate and candid shots accompanied by a detailed biography in Eve Arnold’s own words, Marilyn Monroe: An Appreciation showcases the star in moments both public and private, amounting to a moving and personal meditation on a superstar’s life and legacy.

This special-edition bundle is accompanied by an 8”x11” print of Marilyn Monroe, taken by Eve Arnold on the set of ‘The Misfits’ in 1960, and printed by fine-art printer and restorer Danny Pope, whose work Arnold personally endorsed. The book is signed by Michael Arnold, the late photographer’s grandson and custodian of her estate.

A word about the printer Danny Pope is the founder of Matchless Prints Ltd, and the first printer to use the "painting with light" method on Polapan transparencies, which revolutionised colour prints and influenced colour photography's rise. Central to his process is premium archival paper, and his proprietary "spot varnished" finish. Bridging traditional and digital methods, he visualises grain as essential, and controls light and colour meticulously. Danny clones grain digitally, preserving details to prevent shadows and highlight distortion. He prioritises restoration, creating "straight prints" while maintaining authenticity and the photographers' vision. His large format digital prints push boundaries, infusing images with life, adding dimension and emotion, and elevating photographs beyond their stillness.

About the Artist

Iconic Images Gallery in Piccadilly will be exhibiting “Eve Arnold: An Appreciation”, showcasing the diversity and depth of the Eve Arnold archive. The exhibition will feature some of her most iconic and highly sought-after portraits of Marilyn Monroe, as well as highlights from her acclaimed photojournalistic work, covering Malcolm X and the vibrant community of 1950s Harlem, Queen Elizabeth II, and the landscapes and lives of peasant farmers in late-1970s China.

The Piccadilly Gallery is located at 16 Waterloo Place, St. James's, London SW1Y 4AR, United Kingdom. It is open to the public, Monday through Saturday, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
