Mid-Century Modern Wall Art Ideas

Authentic Sixties Soul for Vintage Teak Interiors

A couple came into Iconic Images Gallery. They were holding photos of a 1962 teak dining table they had just bought at an auction in Lewes.

They asked us: what mid-century modern wall art ideas work best without looking like a staged furniture showroom?

We took them over to our archival drawers. We pulled out a silver print of Michael Caine taken by Terry O'Neill in 1964.

Then when British homes were starting to fill up with Danish furniture and low teak credenzas photographers like Terry were walking through Mayfair and Soho with pocket-sized cameras. Their photographs were raw. Their photographs were sharp. Their photographs were black-and-white.

That lack of fuss is why vintage photography pairs easily with vintage woodwork. Hang a framed gelatin print, above a rosewood sideboard and the whole corner looks authentic, collected and settled.

It gives your dining space a British rock-and-roll heart.
