The first subject in this major project was Jimi Hendrix, and the result was so successful that it was chosen to become the flagship image for the worldwide Jimi Hendrix Exhibition, and as the cover for the The Ultimate Experience CD box-set, which sold over 2 million copies.

About the Artist

Gered Mankowitz established his first studio in Mason’s Yard in 1963, in what was to become the very heart of swinging 60s London. His skills and location brought him iconic clients like Marianne Faithfull, The Rolling Stones, and Jimi Hendrix. Throughout his career, Mankowitz has contributed to many leading magazines, and has taken prizewinning images for the advertising industry.
