Actress Brigitte Bardot smokes a cigarette at a producer’s lunch in Deauville before the filming of the 1968 movie Shalako. This was the first time that Bardot met her costar Sean Connery in what would be a union of two of the sixties' most iconic, charismatic sex symbols on the big screen.

Duke Ellington is photographed playing the piano accompanied by other musicians during a Christmas party in Chicago, 1955. Ellington gained a national profile through his orchestra's appearances at the Cotton Club in Harlem and in the years following, cemented himself as one of the most significant composers of the genre.

Having been featured on the cover of Vogue at the age of 15, Dell'Orefice was one of the magazine's youngest cover models and is now recognized as the oldest working model in the world. 

American fashion model Nena von Schlebrügge is photographed wearing a damson velvet hat by Pierre Cardin during a photoshoot for Queen magazine on August 31, 1960.  The photoshoot featured Schlebrügge modeling in a helicopter flying over the Eiffel Tower. 

John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie is photographed playing the trumpet on Ken Nordine's jazz TV show in Chicago in 1961. Gillespie's combination of musicianship, showmanship, and wit made him a leading popularizer of the new music called bebop and one of the greatest jazz trumpeters of all time.

Marianne Faithfull poses in a corset, stockings, and suspenders for an early publicity photo in London 1966.  Faithfull's manager, Andrew Loog Oldham, was also the first manager of the Rolling Stones and asked Terry O'Neill to work with his other new acts. 

Brigitte Bardot dons brocade pajamas while napping during the filming of The Novices directed by Guy Casaril in France. O'Neill notes: "Between takes on the set, I stumbled upon Brigitte sleeping. As if on cue, the dog jumped onto the bed and stuck his tongue out. Brigitte woke with a start and began to laugh – but not before I’d taken my shot."

Jerry Hall is photographed wearing a one-shouldered satin column dress and feathered coat by Dior during a British Vogue photoshoot at the Palace of Versailles. The image, taken September 1, 1975, was part of a larger shoot done by Parkinson to showcase the newly restored Palace in all of its extravagant glory. 

David Bowie is photographed crouched down and crooning onstage during his late American tour in 1976. Gone is the make-up, the glitter, and the outrageous clothes of previous tours, and in its place is a white-suited Gatsby look.

Sharon Tate holds a teddy bear as she poses nude on a shag rug during a London photo shoot, 1968.  Tate and O'Neill worked together several times before her tragic death in 1969.

Supermodel Kate Moss poses for a close-up on the set of a London photoshoot. This was shot in 1992, just before Kate's breakout Calvin Klein campaign that would make her a star.

Actress Romy Schneider is photographed as part of a promotional shot for the 1972 film The Assassination of Trotsky. The drama, directed by Joseph Losey, explores the mystery surrounding the 1940 killing of Russian Revolution leader Leon Trotsky.

British model Wenda Parkinson wears a satin Molyneaux evening gown while posing with a 1907 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost for British Vogue in 1950. Wenda was one of Norman Parkinson's favorite subjects and a year after the pair's first assignment together, they got married. 

This image captures an unpublished full frame of Della Oake as she is photographed for the May 1950 cover of British Vogue. Oake was the first British model to be featured in American Vogue and is considered one of the quintessential porcelain-skinned beauties of the 1950s.  

Raquel Welch stands on a table in her knickers while filming Myra Breckinridge. The 1970 American comedy was based on Gore Vidal’s novel and directed by Michael Sarne.

David Bowie poses in a blazer, feather boa, and sunglasses beside his former wife Angie Bowie in a 1974 photoshoot. The legendary couple heavily influenced the glam rock culture and fashion of the 1970s.

Ella Fitzgerald performs on Ken Nordine's show in Chicago in 1961. Often referred to as the First Lady of Song, Queen of Jazz, and Lady Ella, Fitzgerald was the first African American woman to win a Grammy Award and collected an astounding 14 over the course of her career.

Faye Dunaway takes breakfast by the pool as she reads the day’s newspapers at the Beverley Hills Hotel on March 29, 1977.  This photograph of the morning after she won an Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role for Network is widely considered to be one of the defining images of Hollywood.
