Newman’s wife, Joanne Woodward, bought the watch for him in 1968 and had it engraved on the case back with: “DRIVE CAREFULLY ME” – a nod to Newman’s passion for motor racing. Its record-breaking auction sale brought in 17.8 million dollars at Phillips auction house 2017.
